But I think Apple has to be careful about annoying content producers - movie and TV show makers - and so they are more than happy to let the maker of AirVideos do it for them. If I had to guess, Apple would have liked to have done something like AirVideo themselves - the ability to stream any Mac-compatible video file to your iPad. Music streaming is done flawlessly with Apple's own Homesharing and Airplay. But the additional capabilities of StreamToMe (streaming pictures and music) can be accomplished by other, IMHO better, applications. I have searched high and low and it seems that streaming software like this does not exist in the PC sector? VLC is an option but my god is that a complex beast to try and setup and configure. Most here will agree that the very 'heavy' APP Final Cut Pro or video editing in general is not suited for the Macbook Air.

I can edit a 4gig MP4 video in Final Cut Pro on the new 13' Air, however 'edit' is a vague term, meaning cut, splice, add text and some low task editing.
I'd like to just install a tiny light weight server, add the client to my laptop, then choose the media I want to watch and have the HTPC transcode and send it over wifi exactly as it does to my iPhone, iPod and iPad at the moment.
